It doesn’t matter if a totalitarian regime comes draped with the hammer and sickle or a swastika. The color of the boots on your neck aren’t important when you’re struggling to breathe. Extreme ideologies on either the left or the right wing effectively contain differences without distinction.
Neither communism nor fascism can survive without absolute distrust of both institutions and your fellow man. That is the true danger of what Putin has infected international discourse with. If no one can be trusted, and history can be so overtly ignored and outright rewritten, then our ability as a global society to understand atrocity is diminished.
The GOP watched what happened in Chernobyl and decided that’s what they want everywhere and for everyone. They look at Tienimen Square and root for the tank. They see Hitler as the right hand of their bloodthirsty god eliminating anyone who dare criticize, embarrass, or disagree. They see humans caring about each other, and their black hearts cringe and cry out an unceasing banshee wail for cruelty,
“Why won’t these lemmings hate how I hate?
How dare these vermin not rejoice their destruction at my hand?
Bow down before the one you serve.
You’re going to get what you deserve.”
Dead souls solely satiated by feeding their addiction to the illusion of strength. Only by subjugation can these weak men feel strong.
Head like a hole. Black as your soul.
I’d rather die than give you control.
